You will see from the reports and results in this newsletter that club members have shrugged off the ‘winter blues’ and problems of cancelled races and closed footpaths to once again enjoy running. Since the Easter edition of the newsletter we have been very busy with various events and also encouraged by the number of new club members joining WVR. A warm welcome to all of you. Our own Club event, The Relay Marathon, took place in early July and ran smoothly thanks to some good hard work by the club captains Pam and Tony who organised the teams, Bob for setting out the course, Peter and Roy on the scoreboard and a big thank you to Pam’s husband Pete for his work as Chief Marshal. I have received several thank you emails regarding the event and two entries for next year! The results for our three teams are included in the newsletter, if anybody would like a copy of the full results please contact me. We have entered teams in the Surrey Road League again this summer, it costs nothing to enter, and points are awarded for certain events run throughout the summer months, these being the Sutton 10k, Dorking 10m, Dysart Dash 10k, Elmbridge 10k and Surrey 5k at Wimbledon. Richard Sherlock, Colin and Kerrie Woods, Kevin Pedley and myself have scored points for the club so far. The latest league positions are men's team 19/23 and ladies team 11/16, with just the 5k at Wimbledon left. Our training this year has tried to reflect the views and wishes of club members, although earlier in the season with the obvious restrictions that the F&M crisis brought, it proved difficult to construct a programme to suit all. We hope that the rest of the summer season and into next winter will be easier to plan but please keep telling us your views, the committee members are listed in the newsletter and will be only to willing to listen. We do try to use the club website and email to give up to date news, but also appreciate that not all club members have access, often at the 10k handicap each month we will give out information about forthcoming events both social and running. Remember we have a notice board in Windlesham as well which Phil Morley does a excellent job of updating on a regular basis. With most races being firmly back on the calendar the Club Championships may interest you, this year’s will be more open as any races count, but remember you will need results if you go off on holiday and do a PB in the local 10k.
