Over Training - The Follow-Up!

Farewell to Jo Smith

We've all heard the horror stories relating to Over-Training, "something that only happens to other people". Well, listen-up - it even happened to me!  In February I ran a very pleasing Tough Ten. Then over the course of the next month, I stepped up the frequency of my running and included two more races, of Ten miles and a Half Marathon.  I was unable to complete either of these races.

So, forward onto the first Yateley 2000 - preceded by a fair amount of training. My time: 51.34. No training took place before the second Yateley - and the time, 48.59.

Beware, Over Training - it CAN happen to you.

Dave Ricards

STOP PRESS : Third Yateley : 47.42. My training for this included :  talking to gym instructors - twice, cycling to the WVR 10K from Chobham Common and, oh, no caffeine.
"Linford, Linford, a word in your shell-like………"

One of our members, Jo Smith, who has attended the training sessions regularly over the last 3 to 4 years is putting her back pack on and setting
off around the world on the 15th  September. Her big adventure will take her > through Thailand, Bali, West and East coast of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Honolulu and LA over 8 months to a year. Of course she will be packing her running shoes and keeping us updated on any scenic runs that she can fit in or bear to do in the tropical heat plus updates on her trip of a lifetime!

BARRY MAKES A HABIT OF WINNING HIS AGE GROUP

Barry has won his age group in a Triathlon and a Duathlon this year.  Well done.

Rounders Match

All of the Woking Rounders Team would like to say a sincere thank you to Wendy and Barry and all the Windle Valley Members who made this such an enjoyable evening.   We appreciate the hard work that goes into such an event. Having enjoyed the three day event in May, many of us had the opportunity of meeting our friends from Windle and enhancing the very good relationship between the two clubs.

Our tough team captain Tom Rowley (who has represented Surrey at Rounders, Netball and Egg & Spoon) Has insisted that we train throughout the year to improve on our third place next year. If they make this an Olympic sport, We'll be ready!

Thanks to all for a brilliant evening.
