As I said in the last newsletter, apologies if I have missed anyone out - please do keep in touch and let us know where, when and what you're running  - here's to continued success this autumn.

Club Walk - 17th June 2000

Many thanks to Les Henderson  for arranging our second club walk. It was a beautiful morning when we all met at Newlands Corner - good to catch up with regular club members as well as two of our newer recruits Hallam and Terri. The views were amazing as we set off towards St. Martha's Church and young Hallam proved to be a focal point of team building as Carl negotiated the varied terrain which included deep sandy paths, some quite steep downhill stretches and the occasional stinging nettles!! Passing through Chilworth we arrived at Blackheath for lunch, an excellent pub " The Villagers" apparently recently reviewed in the Camberley News - what a shame we could have spared them the hardship! Here we were joined by Bob, Jan and Kelly and we all enjoyed the good food and liquid refreshments - the Black Forest Gateaux comes highly recommended by one of the party.

After lunch a fond farewell to Carl, Jennie and Hallam as they made their way back. The rest of us set off across Blackheath Common, pleasant walking amongst the woodland and a close encounter with a local horse and rider who seemed unable to find the brake as she avoided Michael saying " Oh, I'm sorry I can't stop".

The scenery was varied as we came out of the shade of the trees to see the valley open up ahead of us. We continued through the village of  Brook to Shere where we stopped for Les to paddle with the ducks and the rest of us to treat ourselves to fruit, ice creams etc.

The final part of our walk took us passed Silent Pool and then a steep climb back on to the North Downs Way. For some reason Les had not mentioned this bit before, but we all met the challenge and soon we were at the top heading home towards the cars.

It was a lovely day, great weather to enjoy the countryside that's really on our doorstep. Many thanks to Les and Lucette for all the reconnaissance work.

A LITTLE PEP TALK!
From your Ladies Captain

Ladies running continues to go from strength to strength with consistent training and regular entries in many local races. Looking as far back as the London Marathon Wendy achieved her best time yet, whilst Jo, Julie and Nicola all completed their first marathons. Following that Wendy ran well again in the Bracknell Half Marathon coming third.

The variety of events that the ladies have entered has been considerable ranging from the Hart Triathlon where Katie Pearce completed in her first such event to other local races that have included the Forest 5, Yateley series, Woodland 5, Race for Life and the Flora Light Challenge. Congratulations to Mary and Ginny for their sub 50's at Yateley at the beginning of July, and also to Karen who only started running with the club at the end of last year and has now completed the 10k's at Yateley. The Race for Life was again well supported by Windle Valley represented by Wendy, Jan, Angela, Karen, Liz and Kim. Both Kim and Liz also took part in the Flora Light Challenge on 16th July.

The enthusiasm and commitment by the ladies has been outstanding with their involvement in the Runnymede Relay - good runs from Wendy, Amanda, Jo, Jenny and Ginny, and more recently in the Bounders Relay over at Crowthorne which included Wendy, Ginny and Mary.

This support was also evident from those who took part in the Brickmakers Relay Marathon. It was a great performance, not just the running but the encouragement and willingness shown by everyone - many thanks for making the time to Wendy, Terri, Ginny, Karen, Emily, Jan, Angela, Liz, Kim and Mary.

So, it's a good loyal group of ladies that end the summer season, we welcome Terri and Marie and hope they enjoy their running with us. We miss Pam who is living in Stockholm at the moment, but if the emails are correct is running regularly over there - just hope we can keep up when you return!  Good wishes and Bon Voyage to Jo who will be leaving in September to go to Australia and beyond - thanks for your support and have a safe and brilliant time.
