The rain finally cleared to give an overcast and cool day for the Annual Brickmaker's Relay Marathon. This produced ideal conditions for the competitors, who in their teams of ten, run a 26 mile relay Marathon.
After the first leg the Ranelheavies were the leaders, but were overtaken on the second leg by British Airways. Bracknell Forest Men took over the lead after lap 4 and shared the lead with Ranelheavies on alternate laps.
Disaster then struck, just as British Airways were taking up the lead, in that one of their runners was struck by an errant motorist. Despite the valiant effort of the rest of the team, they were unable to be placed. Luckily he was not too badly hurt, but was just shaken up.
Bracknell Forest Runners Men then took over the lead which they held to the end.
We all offer our
commiserations to the British Airways team, and their Captain Allan, who was the unfortunate victim of the motoring incident, but he has recovered well.
Congratulations to Bracknell Forest, and also on their generous gesture of giving British Airways their prize bottle of champagne.
Also we would like to thank the landlord at the Brickmakers Arms for the use of the public house and for supplying the bottles of Champagne for the winning teams. In addition we are most thankful for the use of British Oxygen's grounds and the St. Johns Ambulance Brigade for their attendance.
