Training
The current foot and mouth crisis has caused considerable problems for both event organisers and runners alike. Many of the events that club members regularly participate in have been cancelled or postponed and those that have been held have been very popular.
Club members training for spring marathons have been hit by these cancellations and together with many 'of-road' areas being closed, long runs have been mainly on hard tarmac.
The club committee has discussed the summer training programme and you will have been informed either by e-mail, or by word of mouth, or by looking at the club web site, that at present we will continue to use the winter venues, as most runs will have to be on the road. The field at Lightwater Country Park is still in use, and we are considering going to Windsor Great Park when the evenings stay lighter for longer. Changes will be made as soon as conditions improve. (The Country Park and Chobham Common opened on 1st April)

Championships
I have been asked to remind all club members that the 2001 Club Championships for both Ladies and Men will comprise half marathon, 10 mile and 10k or 5 x 10k. This will be the same for both competitions with separate trophies for each. The continued cancellation of events will have some bearing on the results but the 10k handicaps are still running at the end of every month.
Club members will be responsible for submitting their best results at the end of the year to Michael MacClancey, who has offered to co-ordinate this years championship results.
Other news.
Included in this newsletter is an article on our new Club president Bob Webb together with the usual round up of results and items sent in by members. Where possible I have included photographs.
