TESTIMONIALS
WVR 21ST BIRTHDAY
Windle
Valley Runners has been part of my life for more years than I care to
remember having been introduced to the club by Wendy Davies.
It has given me so many memories, friends, fun and challenges that I
would otherwise never experienced, a brilliant way to keep body and mind
healthy through the years.
Beginning to creak a bit now but still value the friendship and
support.....
Very best wishes to the future of WVR
Chris Peppiatt
I read
today that: "sedentary lifestyles lead to more than 40 medically
recognised chronic diseases". Joining WVR 4 years ago, apart from
helping me forget about my problems at work, is therefore keeping me
healthy, and also giving me the opportunity to take part in a social
activity with like-minded people, many of whom, let's face it, are a lot
quicker than me.
WVR is
large enough to provide good competition for all its members, but small
enough to allow everyone to get to know everyone else.
I
certainly feel a lot better once I have been out running, and I like to
think that I am improving my performance every year - in fact, all my
PBs were achieved in 2010, so bring on 2011!

My first London marathon was in 1987 with the ladies
of the Camberley Athletic Club; a club concentrating on youngsters so us
'lady Joggers' were left to our own devices. When we heard about that a
new club had just started in Windlesham we thought "lets have a look!".
The rest as they say is history - from the very first run it was clear
WVRs were a friendly bunch.
I spent 6 years as Ladies Captain alongside our Tony
- we had a great time with many laughs together.
Many people have come and gone during the years but
Chris Peppiatt has been there alongside or in front of me all the way.
Both she and Tony are always full of enthusiasm and show a friendly face
especially to new runners.
My fondest memory is of running with Roland around
the Lake at Windsor not long before he died - such a warm , lovely
gentleman he was.
A big thank you to everyone who has helped over the
years with the marathon mat laying.
So many memories so many people -- I could go on and
on -- suffice to say well done WVR and I look forward to the next 21
years .

I was
introduced to Windle Valley by a my very good friend Ivan Chandler. I
met him at a PTA meeting over 20 years ago. He was puffing a bit and
looking a bit sweaty. I asked him if he had been running or something?
He said that he just run from his home in Windlesham. I was very
impressed as we were at the Prior Road infant’s school at the time. I
reckoned that it had to be about 5 miles away and he still had to run
back! I told him that I had done a bit of running as a London Fireman
in the past. He said that that he and his mates had just formed a new
running club and asked if I would like to join. I said that I would
consider it as long as I would not have to run to these meetings and end
up looking like you do now.
So this
was the start of a new career for me, as I had not run in earnest for
about 5 years.
Ivan
introduced me to some of the early members, who I have to say were a
great crowd to mix with. I have to mention at this stage, one of Ivan’s
friends, a WVR member and one of the original founder members was the
late Rod Vigar. He had a great sense of humour and was an inspiration
to a lot of us runners. He was a 36 min 10K man and certainly ran the
London in a respectable time. I was also lucky enough to be a friend of
the late Rowland Heyward who loved his run around Great Windsor Park.
Ivan
and I decided to run the 1985 London Marathon so we trained together, he
became injured, so I did it on my own. But he did run it the next year
in a very respectable time of 3.15.
I have
met many new friends through the club and I am very proud of being a
member of a truly inspirational group of people.

It all
started at the Windlesham Fun Run back in the early 1990s where Wendy
approached me to ask if I would like to join Windle Valley Runners.
From
the first day running with WVR, thanks to Chris Peppiatt and Pam
Berriman’s encouragement in the early days and everyone at WVR
throughout the years, I have achieved many personal sporting successes
both in the UK and in Australia.
I have
made life-long friends, have some great memories and experiences – thank
you to everyone.
Happy
Birthday and all the best for many more successful years for WVR.
