Morley reports:
The
day started overcast, but
was still deceptively warm.
Running down the first stretch past the Brickmakers Arms, seemed so easy, as
it was downhill and my legs were fresh. Turning into Heathpark Drive, the
sun started to peek through and things started hotting up. I am sure
Heathpark Drive wasn't so long last year, and where was that 1 mile marker!
Turning into Woodlands Lane gave some welcome rest from the sun, with a nice
breeze blowing across the Motorway Bridge, which carried onto the bottom of
the hill.
A left turn into Higham's
Lane, and this is where the hard work started. The relentless long hill up
to the Chertsey road which lasts for ever. Under the Motorway Bridge, and
past the 2 mile marker - only 0.6 of a mile to go. Over the final brow of
the hill I can at last see the Marshals on the Chertsey road.
"Nearly
there", someone shouted, but my VO2 max was up to Max at this time, and it
was really hard work. Words of encouragement from Tony Sheridan guided me
into BOC headquarters, and there was Mark Coxhead waiting to take the baton
of me. Off to the drinks station and a sit down in the shade.
I still find it hard to believe that I ran 10
times that distance in Paris a few years ago.
I guess it is back to Training evenings for me!
