A group of about 15 attended Chris Lovell’s birthday run on Thursday
night - 22 may 2003
Tony Sheridan reports
We were taken on a very scenic route of
the Basingstoke Canal towards Deepcut territory.
The weather was kind to us, as the clouds which looked dark, staved off.
The pace was light as many of the invitees were injured in some way or
another.
The gathering included a few members of Woking Club who accompanied us along
the canal bank
for most of the run.
After negotiating many locks, part of the trek brought us through fairly
boggy woodland
which was a nature reserve. It was blanketed with fine heather and mature
trees.
In horse racing terms, the going was soft, which made a pleasant change to
the Tarmac roads
we endure most of the time.
During the outing, we lost one of the young Woking boys, so a couple of lads
turned scouts
and doubled back as a small search party.
A one Mr Tom Rowley did eventually turn up at the last bridge, to some
relief to us all.
I think the search party are still out there!.
I could not stay for the little party that was so kindly arranged by the
Lovells,
which included a few alcoholic beverages and pickies.
Pam kindly arranged a card for the birthday boy and a a bottle of plonk to
boot.
Thought it better than 61 bumps!!
