Well, what a good New Year’s turnout at the MABAC 8ml race around Windsor Great Park on  Sunday 5th January 2003

The Windle boys and girls who competed were Mike & Mary, Chris & Jenny, Pete, Kevin, Geoff, Pam & myself.

A crowd of about 140 turned up to compete and support. The race started just after 1100hrs. At around 1040hrs members of the MABAC Committee planted a memorial tree at the side of the main thoroughfare. This was to honour a dearly departed friend, Ray Jolly, who sadly died just before Xmas.

He was almost an institution in his own right as he had organised so many events of the last 25 years. A one minutes silence was held as a remark of respect and was greatly applauded afterwards. Ray’s daughter thanked everyone attending and was asked to throw the first sod at the base of the tree.

Very poignantly, the ice was broken by a humorous remark. She was actually asked to throw one old sod after another old sod! Ray was a great jester and would have smiled

Then another tree was planted to commemorate the 25-year anniversary of the MABAC League.

Both trees were allowed to be planted by kind permission of the Head Gardener of Great Windsor Park

We also had a supporting cast who including Barry, Wendy, Chris and Bev Lovell

We all entered as team “Magic” for this particular event, as the Windle Club were unable to reciprocate such an event

I think Geoff set the pace for the boys but was clipped at the end by an ex-bobby. No not Tyler but Pedley.  Right, the girls. Home first was Jenny, who gave me a pleasant nod at the last hill. I replied with a ahhh! which roughly translated meant, I was completely out of breath and should have sounded like, go for it Jenny. Anyway, Jenny came in around the 58min mark, followed by Mary, Chris and Pam

A good morning run enjoyed by all.
