| Wolfgang Dohne with
his pre race report
I had a really good flight, sitting right next to another Marathon runner ....(hard to imagine that there are currently any other human beings in the town).
I was
collected from the airport by my
sister in law Robin and my younger brother, who had just
visited Bob Glover the running
instructors and German Silva, one
of the former Marathon winners who are massage clients of Robin -
what a shame that I missed that !
The
weather over here is just great, with clear blue skies
and 16C at times (and no storms....).
Yesterday
morning I started with a
leisurely
1h run, before we took the
train to Manhattan,
picking up our microchips and start numbers and collecting a lot of
free T-Shirts (which seems unavoidable as soon as you take part in
any sort of activity over here...).
The
Expo was not too overcrowded and pretty entertaining, covering virtually
every aspect of long distance running. It really feels hard
to not subscribe to another half a dozen Marathons right away,
with so many inviting information stands around.
The
pre race atmosphere over here is is just brilliant, with so many
like minded people, it is pretty easy to communicate.
The
only disadvantage with the Expo in New York is that you can't
purchase equipment there, but you have to take a shuttle service to
a shop down town (where they usually try to bribe you with a free
lunch...)instead. However, due to the strong dollar there are
fewer and fewer bargains to take advantage of.
We
finished the day off with a trip to the top of the World Trade
Centre, where we viewed the
whole race course from Verrazzano Bridge, through the five Boroughs
to Central Park.
Now
there is just shopping and relaxing on the agenda before the
big race on Sunday morning....
